English & the Arts Program

September 9-18 2009

This week will be dedicated to improving your skills in spoken English and playing in the arts with excellent local artists. We will be exploring some exciting things:

Water Colour Painting

Wet on wet water colour painting will be done at the local beach by using the water from the lake to wet our paper. Colours "run" better on the beach and dry in the sun.

Felting

Felting is an ancient way of making "fabric" out of wool. With hot soapy water the fibres will want to pack together. Add some coloured wool and you will have a woollen picture.

Pottery/Sculpting

Working with Elly in the studio is always a fun and creative experience. You may make whatever you desire. If you are brave you may want to try to throw a pot on the wheel.

Mandala Painting

Mandala painting is a traditional form of sacred geometric symbolism evolving from the centre out. You can make you own life story or let it evolve as real artists do.

Walking the Grant Labyrinth

The community now has a labyrinth open to the public. It can be used as a walking meditation. You may walk into the center with a question in your mind, and walk out with the answer. It works!

Expressive Arts

Sue Mistretta is the owner of Hands and Soul Healing Centre. She works with all kinds of artistic mediums to bring the artist out in you while consciously communicating with the art.

Basket Weaving with Cedar Bark

Cedar bark is harvested from the cedar tree in the Spring. When wet, the bark feels like leather - the perfect material from which to weave a basket, a purse, a hat, or just art. In native traditions they weave their vessels this way using certain tribal designs.

Hatha Yoga

This gentle yoga is offered 3 times per week to keep people limber and healthy. It is a sacred time in a beautiful big dome room. No experience necessary. Loose clothing is advised.

And also...

4 x 2-hour English classes with the focus
on pronunciation and expression.

Kayaking or canoeing on our beautiful Slocan Lake.

Hiking the beautiful trails in our pristine local wilderness.

Visiting local Hot Springs.
